The first step would be selecting '''High School DxD''' to be made franchise ready. From the [https://www.animecharactersdatabase.com/mod.php?load=mod_franchise Newer Franchise Tool] you could search for High School DxD, select it and run the macro. The macro will duplicate the series, set it to type Franchise, append (Series) to the title and import all the characters assigned to '''High School DxD'''. You can also do this manually using the [https://www.animecharactersdatabase.com/franchise.php Old Franchise Tool] and editing the titles. Once you have the ID for ''High School DxD (Series)'' you can from the profile page of a title you wish to link to it and enter in that ID where it says Set Parent ID :

Characters can then be imported in bulk using the franchise tools, or manually assigned using the Master Assignments Editor. Which can be accessed from the Show Admin tools and following the - Edit Character Assignments in Franchise - link.

Clicking the bubbles will assign/unassign the character to that title. The red link represents the primary assignment. This can only be changed by clicking the edit link which brings up this tool :

==Primary Assignment==

The primary assignment is extremely important. And there is a reason why characters must never be added directly to a Franchise / title marked (Series).

The primary assignment dictates how the character will be handled on the site. If the primary assignment is an anime, they will be considered an anime character. If it is a visual novel, they will be considered a visual novel character.

So anywhere you find a media type filter, it is the primary assignment that will decide this.

==Update Characters in Parent==

As characters added to child series are not automatically added to the parent franchise, please remember to from time to time click the '''Update Characters in Parent''' button found on the Master Assignments Editor tool.
